The Vision Behind Montero Performance Racing

Montero Performance Racing was founded with one clear goal: to build a competitive, professional pathway into grassroots wheel-to-wheel racing. This program is being developed from the ground up with structure, preparation, and long-term growth in mind — not shortcuts.

Built under the Montero Motorsports brand, MPR represents the start of a serious racing effort focused on performance, development, and credibility at the club level.

Damian Craddle – Mechanic, Montero Performance Racing

I became part of Montero Performance Racing (MPR) during the early stages of the team’s development. I’m from Westerville, Ohio, and I joined the team after hearing about the vision that Shawn Montero had for building a structured racing program and bringing people together to help support it.

Growing up, I spent time helping my dad work on cars. That experience introduced me to the basics of how vehicles function and gave me hands-on exposure to mechanical work. Even though the cars we worked on were not race cars, those early experiences helped me understand the importance of patience, attention to detail, and learning how different systems within a vehicle work together.

When Shawn began talking about building Montero Performance Racing, I saw it as an opportunity to be part of something from the beginning. The idea of helping build a racing team from the ground up and contributing to a program that was focused on teamwork and development made me interested in getting involved.

That decision eventually led me to join the team as a mechanic, working alongside the rest of the crew to help keep the cars prepared and ready for competition.

While I’m not the chief mechanic for the team, my role as a mechanic still plays an important part in supporting the overall operation. Motorsports depends on every member of the crew working together to make sure the car is prepared, reliable, and ready for the challenges of race weekends.

Mechanical work in racing requires focus and consistency, because even small details can have a big impact on how the car performs on track. Being involved in the garage environment allows me to continue learning more about how race cars function and how teams work together to prepare for competition.

One of the things that stood out to me about Montero Performance Racing is the team environment that Shawn is trying to build. The goal isn’t just to compete, but to create a positive and supportive environment where drivers and crew members can develop their skills and grow together.

Being part of a team in its early stages means everyone involved helps shape what that team will become in the future. The culture, the work ethic, and the teamwork that are built now will continue to influence how the organization grows over time.

For me, being part of MPR is also an opportunity to continue learning about mechanical work and gain experience in a motorsports environment. Even without previous racing experience, being around a team like this means constantly learning new things and developing new skills.

Motorsports is a sport where preparation and teamwork are critical. Every mechanic, engineer, and crew member contributes to making sure the driver has the best possible opportunity to perform on track.

As Montero Performance Racing continues to grow, I’m looking forward to gaining more experience, improving my mechanical knowledge, and continuing to support the team as it develops.

For me, being part of Montero Performance Racing is about teamwork, learning, and helping contribute to building something meaningful within grassroots motorsports.
