The Vision Behind Montero Performance Racing

Montero Performance Racing was founded with one clear goal: to build a competitive, professional pathway into grassroots wheel-to-wheel racing. This program is being developed from the ground up with structure, preparation, and long-term growth in mind — not shortcuts.

Built under the Montero Motorsports brand, MPR represents the start of a serious racing effort focused on performance, development, and credibility at the club level.

Jonah Howard – Race Engineer, Montero Performance Racing

I became part of Montero Performance Racing (MPR) during the early stages of the team’s development. I’m from Westerville, Ohio, and I joined the team after hearing about the vision that Shawn Montero had for building a structured racing program and bringing people together to help make it happen.

When I first learned about the idea behind Montero Performance Racing, what stood out to me was that the goal was bigger than simply racing. The team was being built around development, teamwork, and creating opportunities for drivers who want to pursue motorsports seriously. Seeing that vision made me interested in becoming involved and helping contribute to the team.

Even though I didn’t have previous experience working in motorsports before joining MPR, I was excited about the opportunity to learn and take on the role of race engineer within the team.

Race engineering is one of the most important parts of motorsports. A race engineer works closely with drivers and the rest of the crew to understand how the car performs on track, communicate important information, and help make decisions that improve performance during a race weekend.

While I’m still learning the technical side of racing, being part of the team gives me the opportunity to start understanding how race strategy, driver feedback, and car performance all work together.

One of the most interesting aspects of motorsports is how much teamwork is involved behind the scenes. A successful race weekend depends on communication between drivers, engineers, mechanics, and the pit crew. Every role within the team supports the others, and that collaboration is what allows the car to perform at its best.

Joining MPR has given me the chance to begin learning about how racing teams operate and how each part of the team contributes to the bigger picture.

Another thing that stood out to me about Montero Performance Racing is that it’s being built from the ground up. Being part of a team in its early stages means everyone involved is helping shape the future of the organization.

Every crew member contributes to building the culture, the work ethic, and the standards that the team will carry forward as it grows.

For me, being part of Montero Performance Racing is an opportunity to learn more about motorsports and gain experience in a racing environment. Even though I’m still new to the technical side of the sport, I’m interested in continuing to learn more about race strategy, car performance, and how engineering plays a role in helping drivers succeed on track.

Motorsports is a sport where every detail matters, and the more knowledge a team builds over time, the stronger it becomes. Being part of that process from the beginning is something I’m proud to be involved in.

As Montero Performance Racing continues to grow, I look forward to developing my role within the team, gaining more experience, and helping support the drivers and crew however I can.

For me, being part of Montero Performance Racing is about teamwork, learning, and helping contribute to a program that is working to build something meaningful within grassroots motorsports.
